According to the Youth Act, children and young people must
be heard in matters which concern them. Children and young
people living in Oulu have a chance to have their say on
matters important to them by taking part in the
youth councils. Regional youth council members are selected at schools and
youth centres. The city youth council for youth between
15–19 years has started its work in 2010. Members for city
youth council are selected by biennial youth election.
