The Social Welfare Office for Disabled and Mentally
Handicapped People provides the services for disabled and
mentally handicapped people required by the Act on Services
for the Disabled and the Act on Special Care for the
Mentally Handicapped.

Interpreting services
Severely hearing, visually and speech impaired people may be
provided with an interpreter to help them in various
situations, such as shopping, recreational activities, work,
study, hobbies and social participation.
The extent of the interpreting service for studying is
needs-based. Interpreting services are free for the user.

Northern Finland Interpreting Service
The Northern Finland Interpreting Service provides
interpreting and translation services mainly to authorities
working with immigrants. The services are meant largely for
people working in immigrant offices, immigration reception
centres and social and healthcare offices. They are also
meant to be used to help the integration of immigrants.
