Oulu is known as the city of education in northern Finland. I think this is why the attitude and competence of people in Oulu is world-famous. The locals are multilingual and well-educated, and you can also study in English from preschool right up to doctorate level.
Oulu International School offers comprehensive primary and secondary education in English for children of ages 7 to 15. It is an IB (International Baccalaureate) world school owned by the City of Oulu following the National Core Curriculum through the Primary Years (PYP) and Middle Years (MYP) programmes.
In addition to the regular upper secondary schools there is also an evening school for adults, a Swedish-speaking private school and the Oulu Steiner School. Oulu Vocational College is one of the biggest vocational schools in Finland.
The University of Oulu is the second largest university in Finland. More than 70 different specialist disciplines are represented in the international learning environment of six faculties. The university educates specialists and experts in diverse fields for challenging national and international tasks. Oulu University of Applied Sciences provides Bachelor and Master programmes, professional specialisation and open university studies.
Education is not only for the young but a life-long process.
In addition to the Oulu Adult Education Centre, nearly all the educational institutes provide adult education. POHTO, which is well-known by companies and organisations, is a specialist organisation in business education and development with its head office in Oulu. The region also has many other vocational colleges and acclaimed institutes.
